The 2010 Track and Field season is finally here and off to a great start. Returning coaches Tom Swaney, Seth Roe, Gary Chisam, and Bob Pierce all have great expectations for the track season and hope to see many victories awarded to individual Eagles.

Two four-year seniors, Breck Knoblauch and Sarah Schrag, are top returners for this squad. Breck Knoblauch, a two-year state qualifier, is once again expected to excel greatly in the Discus and other throwing events as well. Although an illness that occurred during the basketball season prevented him from beginning season training for two-weeks, Knoblauch has proven that he still has it in him and is competing exactly where he left off last year. Sarah Schrag also shows great signs of success in High Jump. After finishing in the top eight at regionals last year, she has stepped up her training and is jumping in the same rhythm with which she ended her junior season.

Two juniors have shown great performances and bring experience to the KHS team. Blake Bergkamp, third year returner, has come back competing in the Shot Put. Last year Blake was the League Champ for the Shot Put throw and is expected to continue to excel in this event. Hayley Mertens, also a junior, is expected to add much to the squad. Hayley came near to breaking the Kingman High record for women’s 300 low hurdles and has also stepped up her training to meet her goals. She is projected to be very competitive in the running events again this year with hurdles once again her main event.

For the start of the season, the varsity squad competed at Andale and Conway Springs. Below are the results from the Andale Relays, held on April 1, and the Conway Springs Participation meet, held on April 9.
