On the weekend of January 16, two senior students from Kingman High went to audition for the All State Honor Band. While Sarah McPherren, a tuba player, regrettably did not place, Lisa Giefer earned a place for the third year in a row. Lisa, who plays the French Horn, auditioned Saturday, January 16th and placed with a spot in the number 5 chair, comparative to placing 1st chair last year and 2nd chair as a sophomore. Lisa says that she is really excited to have had the opportunity to audition and place three different times in the Honors Band.
Lisa grew up in a musically inclined household, so her music interest showed itself early. Among the three Giefer siblings, Lisa was the only one who took an interest in band. She chose the French Horn in 5th grade and stuck with it all through middle and high school. Lisa is also a member of the Kingman High School Madrigals, and when asked whether she preferred vocal or instrumental performance, Lisa found it difficult to choose. However, she did say that she has more training for the French Horn than for singing. She commented that she has "enjoyed being in band this long."
Obviously, Lisa plays classical music due to the Band course itself although she grew up listening to country music, but she says that her tastes have expanded to include rock and pop as well. As she makes plans for college next year, Lisa plans to pursue a music related career.
