Recently NHS members visited Kingman Elementary and St. Patrick's kindergarten, first, and second graders to introduce the "Protecting You Protecting Me" program. NHS members invited students to attend their Trunk-or-Treat event at the Methodist Church parking lot. The NHS students also talked with the young kids about the importance of safety during Halloween activities. Students were informed about some dangers of the holiday and were told how to stay safe.
Club members were pleased with the experience. Juniors Sarah Vanlandingham and Amelia Govert commented that the kids seemed excited that high schoolers cared about them being careful during Halloween and were, of course, anxious to receive candy from the older students after their presentation.
Between 4 and 6 p.m. on Halloween, the Trunk-or-Treat event at the church parking lot featured several vehicles who's owners had dressed for the occasion and filled their trunks with treats for the kids. According to NHS sponsor Mrs. Barbara Witty, the event was well attended with over 200 children trick-or-treating.
