Last Friday, May 14th, Big Brothers Big Sisters put on a fundraiser at Kingman High School. Big Brothers Big Sisters, or BBBS, put on a Wii Bowling tournament in the commons area of the new gym. The tournament was open to anybody who could raise $100 worth of donations to BBBS, and was advertised around the school via flyers. The tournament was just for fun, but the person who raised the most money for the tournament won their own iPod Touch. Caroline McKenne, junior, won that incentive by raising $395. The tournament itself had a small turnout, with only 7 competitors, but overall the group raised an astonishing $1,125. There were 2 teams, one with 4 bowlers and the other with 3. Team 2, composed of juniors,Allison Molitor, Jeff Quimby, and Andrea Payne won the tournament. Also at the fundraiser was soda and pizza for everybody. Competitors received a door prize of their choice ranging from gift certificates to Kiss and 360 Gym and Fitness to Bobz Bikz t-shirts and other items.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a non-profit organization that helps kids. The program is designed to help give younger kids a positive role model in their life when otherwise absent. The fundraiser was put on to help pay for operating costs of the program such as running background checks on applicants and other expenses. People are encouraged to sign up as there are many "littles" on the waiting list for a "big," especially big brothers.
Big Brothers Big Sisters also has 2 more fundraisers planned for this summer, a golf tournament and a organized walk/run. The golf tournament is on June 26th at Pretty Prairie Golf Course, it's a 4 man scramble and starts at 9am. The organized walk/run is on July 31st during the Kingman Fair. For more information on either of these, contact Caroline McKenney.
