Friday, May 7th, marked the end of the regular track season for the Kingman High Track & Field squad.
Kingman traveled to Mulvane with great hopes of victories in not only the field events, but also a few running events. As the competition continues to escalates, athletes of all events have continued to push themselves to improve in their areas. This particular meet confirmed how much work and effort the track team has put in over the last few months.
The Kingman throwers continue to improve and are placing consistently. In Discus, senior Breck Knoblauch competed well and finished 2nd with a throw of 150-10”. Junior Blake Bergkamp also competed well and placed 6th with a throw of 124-09”. On the girls' side, Junior Amelia Govert threw the Discus for a 2nd place finish with a throw of 101-05”. Senior Emma Beat also finished well placing 6th with a throw of 78-04”. Freshman Lauren Moon set a new P.R. with a throw of 59-08.05”. Senior Breck Knoblauch finished 5th with a throw of 42-08.25”.
Kingman Jumpers and Vaulters continue to improve and excel at many meets. Freshman Madeline Roe set a new P.R. in both Triple and Long Jump. Roe’s Triple Jump was enough to gain 3rd place with a jump of 30-01.75”, and her Long Jump at 14-06.50” placing her for 5th. Senior Sarah Schrag improved her Long Jump record by almost a whole foot guaranteeing her 3rd place with a jump of 15-11.50”. In High Jump Schrag tied her season best with 4’10” for 2nd place tie. Tashia Ryan, sophomore placed 4th in Pole Vault with a tie at her season best of 7-06”.
Hurdlers had an outstanding night. Junior Hayley Mertens set new personal records in both 100 meter and 300 meter races. Placing 1st in both, Mertens really out-did herself. Mertens posted a 15.80 in her 100 meter finals and a 49.26 in the 300 meter race. Junior Kirstin Robinson also competed well finishing 4th in the 300 meters with a time of 55.65, and 6th in the 100 meter race with a time of 17.74.
As the 2010 Track season winds down, many of these athletes are finding their one race or event to compete at their best. The league meet is scheduled for this Friday 5-14-10 at Clearwater, and Regionals will be held the following week at Andale, both familiar places to the Eagle Track team.
